The Client

Nomin.mn is a top E-commerce website in Mongolia. Nomin Holding has been providing innovative and cost-effective products and services to the country since its establishment in 1992. Nomin Eshop was launched in 2008 as Mongolia’s first online shopping site. Since its establishment, Nomin has been continuously improving and developing, offering their customers the widest selection of products, taking orders from all over the city and providing them with the goods they need.

Nomin has identified that the current website is not up to the latest standards and the user experience of the site can be improved. As Magento announced the end of life for Magento 1 Nomin has identified that it is the best time to move on with Magento 2. To get the maximum out of the migration, Nomin has decided to implement a PWA application using Magento 2 backend. The expectation of the new investment is facilitating the clients with a smooth online shopping experience and converting more visitors to customers hence increasing the revenue significantly.

By implementing a PWA application will allow providing unique experience depending on the customer device such as Android, IOS yet without spending additional budget to develop separate mobile Apps.

  • Nomin has more than 1000 staff working on the website and separate dedicated teams for each department such as IT, content, admin etc. So Nomin naturally needed action and API logs to keep track of all the changes that were done on site.
  • Each user can only access certain sections of site. User roles need to be defined based on department (for e.g. Orders Dept. can only view “Orders section”, Content team can only view “Products and Categories”)
  • At all stages of the sales funnel, customers have the need to edit their orders but Magento only had this feature available for pending orders. Hence order edit feature to be enabled for all stages of the ordering process.
  • Create a feature to download the cart as PDF and share with Friends and Family.
  • Create a loyalty and VAT system for tax purposes
  • Import more than 100,000 products to new site and sync with existing ERP system.

The Approach

  • Used Amasty action Log and Mageplaza action log extension to enable tracking of all changes done to site by multiple users.
  • User roles created for each department and customize Magento default user role feature.
  • Since Magento had only a default pending order edit feature, this solution needed to be custom developed.
  • Third party modules did not provide a solution to Cart page PDF download, hence a custom solution was successfully developed for PWA and Magento 2 extensions are not supported for PWA.
  • The loyalty and VAT system was very specific to Nomin. In addition, it was only for private access hence we had to work through a VPN for development and testing since all work was done remotely.

In addition, NeoSolax had to deal with multiple design changes even at the development phase which required extra time. Overall, NeoSolax was able to improve the site speed significantly through Google Page Speed Insights and making all necessary changes on every page. The API calls to their ERP system was reducing page speed and needed to be optimized. 

The server speed was increased and cost reduced by migrating to AWS hosting. The Magento system was migrated from M1 to M2 to gain access to new features, enable new updates and improve system stability and security.

The Achievements

The newly revamped website with more than 100000 products featured was able to successfully adhere to all of the client’s requirements and functions and provide a seamless experience for customers on their online shopping experience. Leads and generations increased as a result and the feedback received in general was far better than what Nomin was able to achieve previously.
